Writings by Deaf and hard of hearing indicate the lack of experience in Japanese listening, and insufficient syntactic and pragmatic knowledge. In this report, I analyzed the writing errors made by Deaf and hard of hearing, syntactically, semantically and pragmatically. Errors of native signers of Japanese Sign Language also reflect syntactic characteristics of their native language. The most frequent errors are those of case particles. Errors of hard of hearing and post-linguistic deaf students sometimes reflect insufficient phonetic and phonological knowledge of Japanese language. Faint memories of words and idioms become apparent from vocabulary and idiomatic errors.
