The critical\nanalysis revealed that fingerspelling–letters connected with signs indicated\nfunctions like phonetic complements, which are observed in the hieroglyphs or\nthe Mayan scripts. Interesetingly, the patterns of fingerspelling-letters are also\nsimilar to sutegana observed in written Japanese in the early modern ages. The\nanalysis of mechanisms of compound signs connecting with fingerspelling-letters\nuncovered that an initial Kana of a Japanese word corresponded to a certain sign\nis connected before the sign as the phonetic complement, whereas a terminal\nKana is connected after the sign, suggesting the bi-linearity of fingerspellingletters as the phonetic complement, which is considered to derive from written\nJapanese.
